Horse in Scene

Hello,

At last I have finished the horse project.

This is my first complete project. Hope you'll like it :)

Thanks,

  1. This is a pretty complicated scene.
It really looks like you spent a reasonable amount of time with it.

Might want to play with the shadows and materials some more but other than that,
i beleive that image is outstanding.

    BTW,
The textures look very intricate and well chosen and where did you learn how to map uvs and apply textures?
I've looked through many tutorials and i've never gotten the hang of uv mapping.

I feel kinda guilty because all i care about is the final rendering, not the modeling and textures. Somehow something in me just wants to be done with modeling and render.
I spend days playing with the Vray and making tiny increments to make it look more realistic.
You're like the complete opposite and it looks like you care more about the modeling than the final render.

yeaa. probably because i have a history of impatience.

  2. Yes you're right, I spent quite a lot of time on this scene, the modeling process was the easiest thing in it. It took a lot of time plaing with the light's... Because I had no experience on lighting whatsoever. And yes, on the final result my ground material didn't reflect the shadow's, I tried to fix it, but I didn't wanted to change the material it self, so I left it that way. As it was my fisrt complete scene I decided to leave it as it was, because the final render was made with vray and it took me almost 7 hours to render it... Then some minor modifications in photoshop and I got the result you see here :)

About the textures, I basicly used the textures provided with 3ds Max 2011. I had a good reference and according to it I chose the textures. To apply the textures to the scene I used a basic technique of maping, chosen the material, applied it to the mesh and added the UW Map modifier, then plaed with the setting's of the modifier to gain the result I needed.

It's a quite straight forward process to do... Just you need some time to get the idea how the UV modifiers works and try to do different thing's with it.

You don't need to feel guilty about the care of the final render, because we all seek the AWESOMNESS in our creations :) At first I also tryed to do many, hide tris etc. To get the modeling result in small amount of time, but I raned into the problems after, because Vray and other high quality render's makes those detail's appear :D Then I decided to do the modeling process as good as I could :) Basicaly no tris, only quads.

I like vray for it's quality, but god damn it, the high quality render take a lot of time and when some tiny thing's go wrong in the final render it realy get's you....

When I will finished 3 more head's and make a scene, then I will try to manage a nice render, I suppose Mental ray of the final scene, if it will go not as planned, then I will try to Vray it :)

But in this, let say indrustry of 3D art (modeling, rendering etc.) you have to train your patience, because good result's doesn't come in minutes, sometimes it doesn't come in day's :))

Just for the example, on this scene of horsie, the modeling process of the horse, the scene, light's and render I spent from 3 to 4 weeks, basicaly a month to make it :)

Btw, thanks for commenting and making my blog look alive !! I realy appreciate that !
